Juan Carlos Acosta joined the faculty of Cuyamaca College as the director of the Cuyamaca College Choir in the Fall of 2014 and is active internationally as a conductor, music educator and professional tenor. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education and a Masters of Music in conducting from San Diego State University where he served as the Graduate Assistant to the choral program under Dr. Patrick Walders and was named Outstanding Graduate Student of the Year. Mr. Acosta has pursued additional study in conducting with Charles Bruffy at the Westminster Conducting Institute, and Jon Washburn at the National Conductors Symposium hosted by the Vancouver Chamber Choir. Juan has held conducting and teaching positions with the San Diego Children’s Choir, the Chula Vista School for the Creative and Performing Arts, First United Methodist Church, Chula Vista and the Pacific Academy of Ecclesiastical Music. As a vocalist Juan has appeared with many professional ensembles including the San Diego Opera, Vancouver Chamber Choir, the Bach Collegium of San Diego, Voci Per L’Arte (Washington D.C.), the San Diego Master Chorale and Cappella Gloriana.
