Counseling Services offers career counseling and guidance for choosing a major, creating a career-educational plan, and career research assistance for students.

 Currently, Career Counseling services are provided through live 60-minute Appointments: Schedule your 1-hour Virtual Appointment

 Both on-campus and off campus jobs can be viewed for free at College Central Job Board. Cuyamaca College, Grossmont College, enrolled high school students and alumni may use this service.

Access job opportunities 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. To look at the job list you may use a Career Center computer or use your own.

Post a resume to the Online Job Board. This will prompt our resume tutors at the Career Center to review and take a look at your resume. You may be called in to bring your resume with you for an additional appointment and assistance to work on it.

You will need your Student ID

You can log into the job board using your student ID. If you forgot your student ID, contact us at cuyamaca.career@gcccd.edu.

E-Mail Account Required

Students will need an e-mail account to register for the Cuyamaca Online Job Board. You may use your own email account, but If you need a new e-mail account go to http://students.gcccd.edu . You will be asked to supply your student user name and password.

Upon e-mail approval from the Career Center you may:

• Update or Review Your Registration Information: Keep your information up to date for the career center and students/alumni.

• Post New Job: We recommend that you choose only one or two specific Job Target headings to post your job under. More students with the skills you need will see your job.

• Update/Preview/Repost Jobs: Give plenty of detail to make your postings attractive to students/alumni!

• Easily search for Job Candidates: Search Student and Alumni Resumes; Find outstanding candidates for your opportunities.

NOTE: As with any database search, the more criteria you chose, the more limited your results will be. Modifying your criteria may be useful for yielding many qualified candidates.

Fairs and Expos

The Cuyamaca Career Center hosts an annual Career Expo on campus every Spring. Typically we have over 80 employers on hand to showcase their company and available careers and provide opportunities for students to network and present resumes. We also lead up the week to the Expo with Resume prep workshops and skills training to help you make that all important first impression.

The Occupational Outlook Handbook

AmeriCorps

AmeriCorps members are similar to Peace Corps members, except AmeriCorps serve only in the US. A stint in AmeriCorps usually lasts 10 months to one year. Paid volunteer. Tuition benefits.

California Conservation Corps- San Diego

The San Diego Center challenges its corps members with natural resource work ranging from trail construction and fire hazard reduction to heavy equipment operation. There are also Caltrans internships.

California Volunteers

Programs include AmeriCorps, Disaster Corps, Green Jobs Corps, Citizen Corps, Business Partners Program, Governor's Mentoring Partnership, CalVet Corps, Operation WelcomeHome, and WePrepare.

City of San Diego volunteer jobs

Volunteer opportunities in the Attorney's Office, City Clerk's office, Family Justice Center, Fire-Rescue, Library, Metropolitan Wastewater, Parks and Recreation, Police and Water/Reservoirs.

Federal Government's Internship Program

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management provides Federal internship opportunities to students and recent graduates  who are enrolled or accepted for enrollment as degree seeking students taking at least a half-time academic, technical, or vocational course load in an accredited high school, technical, vocational, 2 or 4 year college or university, graduate or professional school. Students who successfully complete the program may be eligible for conversion to a permanent job in the civil service.

Career Cruising is a tool for you to learn more about your skills, values and interests through assessments. This program allows you to search a database of careers, colleges, and majors. Career profiles include educational requirements, occupational information, salary, outlook, and videos and interviews by professionals in each field.

Perfect Interview

The Perfect Interview software allows you to practice interviews from your home via your webcam from your smart device, laptop or computer. There is also a private room you can book at the Career Center where you can practice. Perfect Interview has thousands of practice questions, an interview coach to help you answer such questions, and two sample student responses. Perfect Interview also has a job search and resume builder.
