This is a hybrid course that meets bi-monthly to engage, explore and operationalize the concepts in Zaretta Hammond’s book, Culturally Responsive Teaching & the Brain. In this book, Hammond draws on cutting-edge neuroscience research to offer an innovative approach for designing and implementing brain-compatible culturally responsive instruction. This book includes information on how one’s culture programs the brain to process data and effects learning relationships, and gives ten “key moves” to build students’ learning operating systems that helps to cultivate an academic mindset.

Graduate credit is available through SDSU Extended Studies – 2 units, ED 0997.153, Closing the Equity Gap $160.00. You may participate in this course for free if you prefer to use it for professional development credit/hours.
