UC San Diego receives more than 15,000 transfer applications each year. Transfer applicants must complete minimum UC requirements. Meeting these requirements does not guarantee admission. Students admitted to UC San Diego exceed UC admission requirements.

Academic Criteria - Overview
- Transfer Applicants must achieve Junior-level standing (60 semester/90 quarter transferable units completed) by the end of the spring term before transfer.
- One of the most important criteria considered is the GPA in UC-transferable college courses based upon the applicant's self-reported academic history.
- Progress towards completion of major preparation requirements by spring prior to transfer.
- Completion of the UC English composition, mathematics, and additional subject requirements by spring prior to transfer:
- Two courses in English composition/critical thinking and writing.
- One transferable math course.
- Four transferable college courses in at least two of the following subject areas: arts and humanities, social and behavioral sciences, physical and biological sciences.
- Completion of the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) requirements is highly recommended for applicants.
